The Mayor of Silverton, Colorado recently banned the Pledge of Allegiance at town board meetings. Mayor Shane Furman decided — without so much as a vote — that the Pledge should not be allowed because of the “divisiveness” it creates.

“Due to direct and indirect threats, inappropriate comments in and out of public meetings, and the general divisiveness this is creating in our community, we will not be doing the Pledge of Allegiance during town of Silverton board of trustee meetings,” Fuhrman announced. He provided no evidence of threats, direct or indirect. And the “divisiveness?” He caused it by making this decision alone.

Board members and attendees, however, did not take this lightly. During public comment, someone began to recite the pledge, defying the Mayor’s fascist order. CBS Denver reports that the Mayor threw a tanrtum when this happened:

Later in the meeting, during the public comment period, an individual said she wanted to recite the pledge. Two board members and a handful of attendees stood and recited it — prompting Fuhrman to say they were out of order.

The hatred of our country and its Pledge coming from the Left is unacceptable. It is they who create “divisiveness” surrounding it by pretending that the Pledger of Allegiance — a patriotic act of devotion to our country and nothing else — is somehow a problem. But they want to erase everything that honors America — Mount Rushmore, statues that honor our nation’s history, the National Anthem, the Pledge. If liberals have their way, all of that will be gone.
