(RepublicanWire.org)Fentanyl has become a leading cause of death among Americans ages 18 through 45 years old. In fact, 2020- 2021 there were more deaths in this age group from fentanyl, then there was from COVID-19, motor vehicle accidents, cancer or suicide. The Centers for Disease Control reports that there were 53,000 deaths between January 2020 – December 15 2021 among individuals aged 18 through 49. Whereas nearly 79,000 died of fentanyl overdoses. There were 37,208 deaths in 2020 and 41,587 deaths in 2021.
Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that can be deadly even in very small amounts, and other drugs like heroin or meth may also have been laced with it. Mexico and China are the primary sources for this dangerous drug into America according to the DEA .
James Rauh (Founder of Families Against Fentanyl) expressed concern, stating, “This is a national emergency. America’s young adults — thousands of unsuspecting Americans — are being poisoned.” Rauh said, “It is widely known that illicit fentanyl is driving the massive spike in drug-related deaths. A new approach to this catastrophe is needed.”
In a surprise move, President Biden on Wednesday announced that any foreigner engaged in illicit drug trafficking or production will be subject to sanctions.
Biden’s order states, “I find that international drug trafficking — including the illicit production, global sale and widespread distribution of illegal drugs, the rise of extremely potent drugs such as fentanyl and other synthetic opioids, as well as the growing role of internet-based drug sales — constitutes an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security, foreign policy and economy of the United States.”
Overdoses from illegal drugs are on track to surpass 100,000 in 2021. This represents a 28% increase over last year’s figures- and it doesn’t look like things will slow down anytime soon!
