(RepublicanWire.org) – Kevin McCarthy thanked former president Donald Trump early Saturday morning for helping him finally secure a win in the 15th round of voting for the House speakership.

“I do want to especially thank President Trump,” McCarthy told reporters. “I don’t think anybody should doubt his influence. He was with me from the beginning … he was all in.”

“He would call me, and he would call others. He really was — I was just talking to him tonight — helping get those final votes,” McCarthy said. “What he’s really saying, really, for the party and the country, that we have to come together. We have to focus on the economy. We’ve got to focus, make our borders secure. We gotta do so much work to do, and he was a great influence to make that all happen. So, thank you President Trump.”

McCarthy at last clinched the speakership just after midnight Saturday after an all-week marathon of ballots and negotiations and a heated final stretch on the House floor.

Representatives Andy Biggs and Eli Crane of Arizona, Bob Good of Virginia, and Matt Rosendale of Montana all voted “present” in the 15th round, helping to lower the threshold of votes needed to win. Representatives Matt Gaetz of Florida and Lauren Boebert of Colorado voted “present” in both the 14th and 15th rounds as well. McCarthy narrowly won with 216 votes, having needed 215. Democrat Hakeem Jeffries (D., N.Y.) earned 212.

Trump spoke to GOP holdouts throughout the voting process. He attempted to gin up support for McCarthy on Wednesday.

“[I]t’s now time for all of our GREAT Republican House Members to VOTE FOR KEVIN, CLOSE THE DEAL, TAKE THE VICTORY, & WATCH CRAZY NANCY PELOSI FLY BACK HOME TO A VERY BROKEN CALIFORNIA, THE ONLY SPEAKER IN U.S. HISTORY TO HAVE LOST THE ‘HOUSE’ TWICE!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

However, Boebert suggested on the House floor on Wednesday that Trump should tell McCarthy, “Sir, you do not have the votes, and it’s time to withdraw.”

Trump spoke to holdouts over the phone as the 15th round of voting came down to the wire. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R., Ga.,) was seen passing a phone to Rosendale with Trump on the line shortly before the Montana Republican switched his vote to “present” after rounds of voting for other candidates besides McCarthy. Trump also reportedly spoke to Biggs and Gaetz before the pair changed their own votes to “present,” according to ABC News.

Trump responded to McCarthy’s comments on Saturday saying, “Thank you, Kevin. It was my great honor!”

“The ‘Speaker’ selection process, as crazy as it may seem, has made it all much bigger and more important than if done the more conventional way,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social. “Congratulations to Kevin McCarthy and our GREAT Republican Party!”

(RepublicanWire.org) – Republicans have been predicting a “red wave” for the 2022 midterm elections since late last year. And with President Joe Biden’s approval ratings falling, the GOP has high hopes for flipping the House.

It also helps that many Democrats will be leaving – via retirement or pursuit of other positions – so left-wing majority in the House is in a very tenuous position.

And if Republicans succeed, they’ve got a “day one blitz” that could take Washington by storm.

The GOP have talked about what they intend to do if they reclaim power in D.C., and this begins with turning the House back to Red. They also hope to flip the Senate, where they only need a net gain of 1 seat.

And if they can claw back some of that lost control, Republicans will have a surprise ready for the President.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy wrote out a detailed list of “prime targets” for The Daily Caller, and it shows they’re going after POTUS in a variety of critical categories.

This includes everything from Afghanistan and the pandemic to the Department of Education and Big Tech. If Democrats can’t fend off the GOP charge, these probes will kick off immediately.

That’s when we might start to see plenty of fireworks on Capitol Hill, especially because these investigations tackle most of the hottest topics of the day.

Via The Daily Caller:Biden’s DOJ, Department of Education and COVID policies are prime targets for House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy should Republicans retake the House in the midterms this November, according to a sprawling list of priorities his office sent exclusively to the Daily Caller.

‘We have already sent preservation notices and document requests and will be ready on day one to use the various tools at our disposal to get the answers Americans are demanding.’

Included in the plan are the “politically motivated actions by the DOJ” and attacking the Department of Education’s labeling of parents as “domestic terrorists,” which remains a sore point among American mothers and fathers.

Then there’s the border crisis, which hasn’t improved according to recent Department of Homeland Security (DHS) statistics regarding encounters and arrests.

McCarthy makes it clear that Republicans will be examining many of the most critical issues:

Biden protects liberal activists but turns a blind eye to rising crime.

Biden has opened the border, supported mandates that have hurt students in the classroom and parental rights, allowed Big Tech to silence conservatives, and has overseen leaks of private information on American citizens under his watch.

His office also mentioned the “botched Afghanistan withdrawal,” as well as “attacking free speech, going woke, and cozying up to China.”

McCarthy ripped the President for vowing to unite the country, but instead “has done everything in his power to divide Americans.” This is a common complaint among right-wing voters according to polls.

Lastly, the controversial origins of COVID are also on the chopping block — this all means the GOP will have a full dance card if they retake the House.

They’ve been promising action for months now, and millions of Republican voters are hoping that it actually happens. They’ve been frustrated by an ailing economy and Biden’s leadership in general, it seems.

The first step, however, is to flip the House (and the Senate, if possible). If this happens, Republicans will finally have some chips to play with in D.C.
