(RepublicanWire.org) – While President Biden’s latest foreign policy failure has enabled Russian President Vladimir Putin to invade Ukraine with little more than a slap on the wrist, a crisis continues to unfold here at home with hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants arriving at our southern border every month. Numbers recently released by Customs and Border Protection show that 164,973 illegal immigrants were caught attempting to cross the U.S.-Mexico border in February alone — a fact made all the more dangerous considering that hundreds of thousands more have almost certainly slipped through.

It’s worth taking a step back and examining the whole picture. Since Mr. Biden came into office, more than 2 million illegal immigrants have been apprehended at our border, plus at least 500,000 more have disappeared into our country undetected. In clear evidence that policy matters, Mr. Biden’s February numbers show an astounding 280% increase from the average number of February apprehensions during the Trump administration. Even Mr. Biden’s DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas recently admitted the situation at the border is “worse now than it, frankly, has been in at least 20 years, if not ever.”

My home state of Texas is on the front lines of this crisis — and we are none too happy about it. Barely 1 in 3 Texans approve of Mr. Biden’s job as president, which, frankly, is nothing compared to how we feel about his border crisis. Months ago, Judge Chuck Burns of Kenedy County put the cost of Mr. Biden’s inaction in tragic, stark terms, saying, “We have an expense of recovering dead bodies that is very unforgiving terrain here.” Ranchers in Texas have been forced to spend tens of thousands of dollars to repair property damaged by illegal immigrants.

That is why we need to empower our law enforcement and Border Patrol agents. Mr. Biden has demonized these brave men and women tasked with maintaining the integrity of our borders and protecting our communities from the scourge of criminals, drugs and violence. One border agent said: “We all know he doesn’t care about secure borders.” Indeed, Mr. Biden doesn’t. During his first 100 days in office, Mr. Biden signed 94 executive actions on immigration, including halting the construction of the border wall and ending the Trump administration’s successful “Remain in Mexico” policy, and now the rest is history. Recently leaked ICE data shows that despite a historic surge in illegal immigration last year, they arrested 48% fewer criminals and deported 63% fewer criminals — an alarming statistic.

While Mr. Biden has not been to the border as president to see the crisis for himself, many Texans, including myself, know firsthand that this catastrophe directly results from his failed policies. Our brave citizens, dedicated law enforcement officers and Republican Gov. Greg Abbott offer a different vision for the future of our country, a vision including secure borders that lead to safe communities free from the devastation of drugs and violence. Americans are fed up with Biden’s self-inflicted border crisis. While they will have to wait until 2024 to vote him out, midterms are just around the corner, and Democrats should be worried.

(RepublicanWire.org) – What if a significant tool in the hands of law enforcement and prosecutors was allowed to expire when a legislative fix was possible?

Last week, the Halt All Lethal Trafficking of Fentanyl Act was blocked from a vote by House Democrats. This HALT Fentanyl Act, sponsored by Representatives Morgan Griffith (R-VA) and Kat Cammack (R-FL), would make permanent the ban on fentanyl-related substances first issued in February 2018, set to expire February 2022. This was specifically requested in the Department of Justice written testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee in June 2019. If Congress failed to act, the joint statement from Amanda Liskaam, director of Opioid Enforcement and Prevention Efforts, and Greg Cherundolo, CEO of the DEA’s Office of Global Enforcement, included the reality that “savvy clandestine manufacturers and traffickers [would] respond to the re-emerging gap in US law by again producing novel fentanyl-like substances.”

Fentanyl analogues and fentanyl-related substances are the precursors to the fake fentanyl mixed up by enterprising drug dealers in their makeshift home chemistry labs, and the HALT Fentanyl Act would permanently label them as substances with no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse. The key in the legislative solution kept from a vote by Democrats is to equip agents to target the specific chemical companies manufacturing the essential ingredients. Current laws allow producers to change their recipes and skirt the law, whipping up a deadly drug that is estimated to be 100 times more potent than morphine and 50 times more potent than heroin. Ingesting as little as two milligrams, about the size of five grains of salt, can produce trouble breathing, dizziness and disorientation, and even overdose, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse.

The soft-on-crime Democrats can’t be bothered with the open border, the known movement of these powerful substances from China, or any attempt to assist with efforts to stop the flow of substances that are destroying lives, livelihoods, and entire communities. They are too busy keeping businesses monitored for COVID-related “safety” and fearmongering about a virus that is becoming as endemic as influenza. While public health is permitting itself to be weaponized by the political Left, a pandemic that kills almost all of its victims, wrecks families, and destroys lives is being ignored.

In a February 3 article, investigative journalist Sara Carter reports, “Between May 2020 and April 2021 more than a hundred thousand overdose deaths occurred in the United States — an increase of nearly 30 percent over the previous year.” Looking at projections using data through June 2021, that number was expected to reach 101,263 in a rolling 12-month average.

These counterfeited potent substances are coming almost exclusively from China and being moved into the U.S. across Joe Biden’s wide-open southern border. Carter points out how the Biden administration has failed on two fronts: dealing with illegal immigration and the drug cartels and dealing with the Chinese. She reports that U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) seized a record-breaking 11,201 pounds of fentanyl in 2021. In the first three months of fiscal year 2022, more than 2,700 pounds were seized — almost as much as the 2,804 pounds seized during the entirety of 2019.

While Democrats fixate on COVID as most are building their own immunity to a virus that will be with us annually, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her lockstep followers blocked a vote that has been bipartisan in years past. Every single Democrat attorney general added their names in 2018 and 2019 requesting that Congress pass legislation to do just as the HALT Fentanyl Act proposes.

As the peddlers of this deadly poison mix their million-dollar product in Magic Bullet blenders (literally), Americans die, and our law enforcement officers are exposed, many times unknowingly, to the same drugs that kill the addicted. The Biden administration, Nancy Pelosi’s House, and Chuck Schumer’s Senate are proving what we’ve seen for years: Democrats stand against our law enforcement, choose power politics over principled policies, and work the press to ensure their crisis-of-the-day prevails.

(RepublicanWire.org)Fentanyl has become a leading cause of death among Americans ages 18 through 45 years old.  In fact, 2020- 2021 there were more deaths in this age group from fentanyl, then there was from COVID-19, motor vehicle accidents, cancer or suicide. The Centers for Disease Control reports that there were 53,000 deaths between January 2020 – December 15 2021 among individuals aged 18 through 49. Whereas nearly 79,000 died of fentanyl overdoses. There were 37,208 deaths in 2020 and 41,587 deaths in 2021.

Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that can be deadly even in very small amounts, and other drugs like heroin or meth may also have been laced with it. Mexico and China are the primary sources for this dangerous drug into America according to the DEA .

James Rauh (Founder of Families Against Fentanyl) expressed concern, stating, “This is a national emergency. America’s young adults — thousands of unsuspecting Americans — are being poisoned.” Rauh said, “It is widely known that illicit fentanyl is driving the massive spike in drug-related deaths. A new approach to this catastrophe is needed.”

In a surprise move, President Biden on Wednesday announced that any foreigner engaged in illicit drug trafficking or production will be subject to sanctions.

Biden’s order states, “I find that international drug trafficking — including the illicit production, global sale and widespread distribution of illegal drugs, the rise of extremely potent drugs such as fentanyl and other synthetic opioids, as well as the growing role of internet-based drug sales — constitutes an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security, foreign policy and economy of the United States.”

Overdoses from illegal drugs are on track to surpass 100,000 in 2021. This represents a 28% increase over last year’s figures- and it doesn’t look like things will slow down anytime soon!
