Imagine this: you send your daughter off to a private Christian college, fully assured that everything will be in accordance with your deeply-held faith. She shows up to her new dorm, where she meets her roommate, “Samantha.” The first night they share a dorm, “Samantha” decides to get dressed and reveals a massive male appendage. Now imagine being that girl in the aforementioned scenario, in a new place far from home sharing a room with a biological man. She tries to go to the school administration, but nothing can be done — because an Obama-appointed judge ruled that Christian colleges must allow biological men to dorm and even shower with women.
In response to Biden’s January “Executive Order on Preventing and Combating Discrimination on the Basis of Gender Identity or Sexual Orientation,” a Christian college — School of the Ozarks — filed a lawsuit challenging Biden’s rules, which would force even private religious schools to accept transgender “men” and “women” in the dorms and showers of whichever sex they decide they are. The Springfield News-Leader reports:
She said an effort by the conservative Christian college to stop the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development from applying the new directive would not protect the college from any liability related to unfair housing allegations.
In mid-April, the college sued Biden, HUD and related federal officials with support from the Alliance Defending Freedom. The college requested a jury trial.
The college and ADF argued the directive forced religious schools to violate their views by opening male or female residence halls — including dorm rooms and restrooms — to members of the opposite sex.
Biden’s executive order, signed Jan. 20, states that “all persons should receive equal treatment under the law, no matter their gender identity or sexual orientation.” Any entity that violates the order faces financial penalties.
The lawsuit says that Biden and HUD’s meddling in private affairs “requires private religious colleges to place biological males into female dormitories and to assign them as females’ roommates.”
The school’s code of conduct specifically prohibits “Gender expression inconsistent with sex determined at birth” as well as “gender transition” any same-sex sexual activity. But this rule seems to open the door for transgender people to both enroll and abuse Biden’s directive to harass and financially cripple the institution. It opens the school up to an attack, plain and simple.
Our values are under attack. If a Christian school can’t promote Christian values and operate in accordance with the Bible and Christ’s teachings, if judges are backing this sort of thing up, then we have already lost a major Constitutional right.
