Joe Biden has lost Mexico. While our neighbor to the South repeatedly attacked President Trump for his remarkably successful border policies, they are now realizing that, just perhaps, President Trump was right — something we knew all along.
Shockingly, or not so shockingly if the sarcasm isn’t appropriately evident, Reuters reports that Biden’s disastrous policies are probably a.) causing an increase in illegal immigration and b.) helping prop up organized crime — and Mexico is understandably displeased.
“They see him as the migrant president, and so many feel they’re going to reach the United States,” Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said of Biden’s policies, which have led to a flood of immigrants, many of whom have tested positive for COVID, beating down America’s door. “We need to work together to regulate the flow, because this business can’t be tackled from one day to the next.” And indeed, detentions at the border in February were the highest in 15 years.
But Mexican officials are concerned not with the flood of illegals into the United States, but with another effect of the Biden Administration’s already-failed policy decisions — organized crime:
One Mexican official familiar with migration developments, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said organized crime began changing its modus operandi “from the day Biden took office” and now exhibited “unprecedented” levels of sophistication.
That includes briefing clients on the latest immigration rules, using technology to outfox authorities, and disguising smuggling operations as travel agencies, assessments showed.
“Migrants have become a commodity,” the official said, arguing they were now as valuable as drugs for the gangs. “But if a packet of drugs is lost in the sea, it’s gone. If migrants are lost, it’s human beings we’re talking about.”
Thanks to Biden, Mexican cartels, which are operating without fear, will gain power in an already dangerous region. Only time will tell how much damage our current President* will do, but it’s already clear that damage will indeed be done.
