Weird traitor and “Never Trumper” Liz Cheney has threatened Trump aides with criminal charges if they ignore subpoenas to testify before the House select committee in sham hearings related to the peaceful protest at the Capitol on January 6.

Recently, it was reported that Trump’s White House chief of staff Mark Meadows as well as deputy chief of staff Dan Scavino, Steve Bannon, and defense department aide Kash Patel, all of whom have been subpoenaed, are defying their subpoenas and refusing to testify:

The select committee had issued the subpoenas under the threat of criminal prosecution in the event of non-compliance, warning that the penalty for defying a congressional subpoena would be far graver under the Biden administration than during the Trump presidency.

But increasingly concerned with the far-reaching nature of the 6 January investigation, Trump and his legal team, led by the ex-Trump campaign lawyer Justin Clark the former deputy White House counsel Patrick Philbin, are moving to instruct the attorneys for the subpoenaed aides to defy the orders.

The basis for Trump’s pressing aides to not cooperate is being mounted on grounds of executive privilege, the source said, over claims that sensitive conversations about what he knew in advance of plans to stop the certification of Joe Biden’s election victory should remain secret.

“We will fight the subpoenas on executive privilege and other grounds, for the good of our Country,” Trump has said.

Democrats argue that Trump’s executive privilege argument has no legal basis. “In general, people are going to have to appear, or, you know, we will move contempt charges against them,” Cheney says, echoing a threat made on Sunday by Democrat Adam Schiff to “go forward and urge the Justice Department to criminally prosecute anyone who does not do their lawful duty.”

“We’ll see if they show up. If they show up, we’ll be prepared,” Cheney says. The Biden Administration has previously warned of harsh penalties for defying subpoenas, so it’s unclear what is in store for these men when they defy their subpoenas — but we can fully expect them to be punished for purely political reasons, that’s for sure.
