Democrats have jammed a lot of crazy things into the latest COVID-19 relief bill. Among them is abortion funding, which would have accomplished a dream of the Left — government-funded baby killing. Fortunately, Rand Paul stepped up and put a stop to it.
A provision of the bill would have allowed what is effectively the Walmart of abortion to receive money through the Paycheck Protection Program, which is intended to keep small businesses afloat during the pandemic. The plan would have treated each Planned Parenthood location as “separate and distinct entities,,” making them each eligible for taxpayer money.
“Democrats knew this was never about COVID relief or helping small businesses,” Paul says. “It was a shameless attempt to fund their radical agenda on the taxpayers’ backs, and I was successful in preventing that from happening by stopping these funds from going to abortion mills.”
Fox reports that Paul reminded his fellow lawmakers of the original intent of the PPP which is to “limit large and well-financed groups from receiving a loan and instead provide relief to small businesses affected by COVID-19.” Ultimately. the provision that would have waived certain rules that Paul says would “only benefit” Planned Parenthood was removed from the bill.
“While Congressional Republicans continue to focus on baseless political attacks in the middle of a public health crisis, Planned Parenthood health centers across the country continue to provide essential healthcare in their communities,” the abortion provider said in a tantrum following the decision.
Rand Paul helped to avert disaster. Unfortunately for Democrats, they don’t possess the numbers to just shove through whatever they want. There are still enough patriots around to keep the Left from hurting the country with their crazy and unethical special interests.
