(RepublicanWire..org) – When the White House announced that Biden was nominating Suffolk County District Attorney Rachael Rollins for U.S attorney in Massachusetts, several members of Congress praised his appointment while others thought it was a mistake. Members who praised the nomination took to Twitter to show their approval.
Sen. Elizabeth Warren D-Mass tweeted, “She is a great choice for US Attorney – @SenMarkey and I were proud to recommend her to the Biden administration.”
Rep. Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass also showed her support by saying, “Congratulations to my sister in service, @DARollins, on her historic nomination.” “She has fought to transform our legal system by prioritizing racial justice, decarceration & reimagining public safety in MA. @POTUS has made an excellent choice.”
While the left was happy about the nomination, Rollins’ nomination was causing controversy, as the GOP voted against confirming her. Many spoke out against her nomination. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, said she was a “lawless so-called prosecutor.” Sen. Tom Cotton R-Ark., who serves on the Senate Judiciary Committee, expressed “These actions resulted in a historic increase in murders and contributed to the crime wave. Rachael Rollins won’t stand up for the victims of these crimes, and I will seek to stop her nomination.” Even Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., criticized her by saying she was “soft on crime advocacy.”
While campaigning, Rollings shared some of her thoughts about what crimes she would not prosecute. These crimes included breaking and entering, trespassing, drug possession cases, or shoplifting.
With all the controversy about her nomination, a news crew attempted to interview her. This video of Rollins refusing to be interviewed by reporters outside of her house resurfaced Wednesday, after she was confirmed as President Biden’s U.S attorney for Massachusetts.
The interview from January 2021, where Rollins accused journalists of risking her children’s lives after they requested an interview near her home. The film crew for Fox-affiliate Boston 25 News asked if she would be willing to answer questions, and she became visibly upset.
“So as a Black woman, in this moment in this country, you’re going to put my f—ing house on screen?” Rollins questioned the reporter. Even though her address and house were never filmed during the attempted interview.
“No, no, no, ma’am, we’re just here approaching you to ask you a question,” the reporter responded.
Rollins was more than upset to see reporters as she continued her tirade. “Get away from my family. Speak to me at my job. If I get hurt or harmed because of this, you are on the record for that, or my kids are f—ing killed, who do you think you are? This is private property. Get out of here!”
Then Rollins threatened to call the police on the reporter, “And you know what I’ll do? I’ll call the police and make an allegation. And we’ll see how that works with you.”
“So the rantings of a white woman get you here and scare my children?” Rollins again questioned the reporter. “Get off our private property, and I swear to God, I’m dead serious. I will find your name.” Rollins stated in a threatening manner.
After this video resurfaced, people started questioning why Rollings would be worried about people coming to harass her family. Is she worried that her soft on crime policies could come back to harm her?
