Joe Biden promised that we wouldn’t abandon those he left behind in Afghanistan when he pulled U.S. troops out before we had rescued every American who was still trapped in the area surrounding the airport in Kabul. But like every other promise he has made, this was a lie. In fact, he is actively preventing Americans who are rescued from the country following his withdrawal from the now-Taliban-controlled country from making it home. The Biden Admin turned away a flight with 59 children rescued from Afghanistan as well as many others who thought they had finally come home.
When an evacuation flight carrying 117 passengers tried to land in the United States, the Biden Administration said “no.” The flight carried 28 Americans, 83 green card holders, and 6 Afghan citizens with Special Immigration Visas granted to them for working with the United States during the war in Afghanistan. Bryan Stern, a veteran who organized the flight, says that it was initially cleared for landing — but things changed. The Daily Mail reports:
He said Customs had cleared his charter flight to land at in New York but later changed the clearance to Dulles International Airport outside Washington before denying the plane landing rights anywhere in the US.
The plane was held on the tarmac in Abu Dhabi for 14 hours amid the debacle yesterday after taking off from Kabul Airport with 117 on board, among them 59 children.
Stern had planned to transfer the passengers to a chartered Ethiopian Airlines plane for an onward flight to the US that he said the Customs cleared to land at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City.
Customs then changed the clearance before denying the plane landing rights anywhere in the United States, he said.
“Today’s triumph is ending in tragedy. After initial approval, the US government is now denying entry into the US for our American passengers aboard Dynamo 01,” he wrote in an Instagram post. “These passengers are all US passport holders, US green card holders with valid Afghan passports, and a few SIV approved Afghan passport holders.”
“These passengers are all US passport holders, US green card holders with valid Afghan passports, and a few SIV approved Afghan passport holders,” Stern continued. “These Americans are being denied entry into THEIR OWN COUNTRY by the US government.”
The Biden Administration says that the flight was denied so that background checks could be performed on the people who had just been rescued from a terrorist-controlled country and just wanted to return to the United States.
The Biden Administration could be called a “joke” — but jokes are funny and typically don’t place Americans at risk.
