Rumors have been swirling that, despite the Biden Administration’s claims to the contrary, vaccine mandates are around the corner. Already, we have seen a test run in California, where healthcare and state workers are now required to get the vaccine or submit to invasive weekly or twice-a-week COVID testing. Washington has begun to require masks in the White House and House of Representatives. Violators will be arrested. Now, a Biden Admin official says “it’s time” to force all Americans to get vaccinated.
No COVID vaccine has received full FDA approval at this point. Many Americans are holding out until it does. Some have pre-existing conditions. Others have different health concerns like the ingredients in the vaccines, the lack of testing, or allergies. Some choose not to because of a religious or philosophical issue with the vaccine. White House Coronavirus Response Coordinator Jeffrey Zients said on Monday that none of these concerns matter and it’s time to force Americans to get vaccinated.
“Last week the president called on states and local governments to use funding they have received, including from the American Rescue Plan, to give $100 to anyone who gets fully vaccinated,” Zientz said. “If financial incentives like these help us get more shots in arms, we should use them.”
But he says that if incentives fail, it’s time to consider making life unbearable for people who are not vaccinated:
“But in addition to incentives, it’s time to impose some requirements based on the realities of different risks unvaccinated individuals pose versus those who have been vaccinated.”
Federal workers, for example, will have to wear masks and get tested twice a week. “It’s simple, if you want to work with the federal government, get your workers vaccinated,” Zientz says. Watch it below:
